Where to buy Camera Equipment in Hong Kong
The internet is a very good place to buy and prices can be checked across many sources
So if you are looking for a good place to buy cameras in Hong Kong, Stanley Street… one road up from Queen’s Road Central the place to go. There are several camera shops, starting with Photo Scientific. Go see Mr K.K.”Tony” Poon and ask him for the “best” price. Tell him you are a friend of Sean and that you saw his photo on this blog and he will give you the best price he can. Mr. Poon is very knowledgeable about the equipment he sells and stocks a full line of Canon and Nikon SLR’s and accesories, plus a wide selection of the most popular point and shoots.

The most popular at present being the Canon IXUS models, great little cameras we have one of each… Mr. Poon may not always be the lowest price, but he is the best service and you know the product is true and has the proper warranty etc. (IF YOU NEED INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY BE SURE TO ASK FOR IT – CAMERAS SOLD IN HONG KONG HAVE HONG KONG WARRANTY!!!).

Best bet is to stay away from the shops on Nathan Road that cater to the tourists. They often have parallel import products that do not carry proper warranty. As is always the case when buying cameras overseas, check that the equipment has an INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY. If shopping Kowloon side Tsim Sha Tsui there are a couple of shops worth checking out. Onesto FOTO Shop 2 Champange Court, Ground Floor #16 Kimberly Court -Tel: 2723 4668. They have a good selection of used equipment at resonable prices. UPDATE: ONESTO FOTO HAS MOVED INSIDE THE ALLEY AROUND THE BACK OF THE BUILDING.
In Hong Kong, you cannot return goods once purchased so BUYER BEWARE!!! and happy shopping.
UPDATE SEPT 8/06 We just bought a new Canon 400D from Mr. Poon at Photo SciFi, body only HK$5600… and we love it…
