Canon 5D Second Impressions

Filed under: General — SDBlogger @ 3:32 am

So yesterday I went over to my friend Ike’s
, he is the one who has just purchased a new 5D. HK$31,000 with the verticle grip and spare battery. As I said before the first thing you notice is the giant 2.5″ LCD screen on the back, and wow, does it ever make a difference over the smaller screen on the 10 & 20… This screen gives you a much better view of what you are doing and will make a huge difference when shooting detailed subjects, well, actually when shooting anything. Then I put the 5D thru its paces to see how fast it is. On high JPG, you can hold the shutter down in multiple exposure mode and you will have non-stop shooting, it does not freeze to allow the camera to write the files to the card, it just keeps on shooting, on and on and on… Frame rate per second not sure but 4-5 frames a second. Then I switched it over to RAW-L which is the resolution that will require the most disc write time and tested it again to see how many frames you can get off before it pauses to write to disc. 20+ frames of RAW-L then it took a brief 4-5 second pause before it gave me another frame and so on and so on. Then when I gave it a small amount of time to write it saved all the cashed images in about 15-20 seconds and was then ready to shoot again. This is a huge improvment over the old 10 and 20s… We tested the camera using a normal ScanDisc 1gig card, not even the newer fast cards…
One more thing that I found very pleasant on the 5D is the large bright viewfinder, it is like the Nikon, big and easy to see what you are shooting, a marked improvement over the older models…
So could one say that I am a bit green over this new piece of kit my college has, well not really cause I will have one very soon.
