3G iphone just announced by Apple, will be available in Hong Kong July 11th for equivalent of US$199. Now that is half the price of the current 2G iPhone. So you must be thinking how can they afford to do that. Well, with 3G, the network usage is much heavier, and yep you guessed it much more expensive. An unlimited 3G package will run you somewhere in the region of HK$500/month. While the equivalent 2G service is only HK$128/month. So with all those people rushing out to buy the new 3G iPhone from 3 telecom, do you maybe think that Apple will be getting a cut of that $500/month… You can almost count on it?

Having said all that, I will not be getting one, rather I will stick with my 2G version, cause really I only use it for email when I am not in the office and with a 2G service, downloading my headers it is perfectly fast enough on a good old 2G or rather GPRS network…

Sorry Apple, no 3G sucker here…
