Fish n’ Chips

Filed under: General — SDBlogger @ 4:05 am

In a hunt to find the best fish n’ chips in Hong Kong we have tried a few places and here are our recomendations.
Pepperoni’s on Staunton St. The fish was nicely breaded, but we had to special order as they usually do it in beer batter, I could only imagine how greasy that would be as the breaded option was quite oily, but not unbearably so. While this was a great hangover cure of a meal, i’m not sure how it would go down on a normal stomach. I guess if you want a nice lube, oil and filter meal, this one is worth checking out… At HK$90 a bit pricey, but then you do get the great view of everyone going past on the escalator, ha ha!

The other fish n’ chips place we have tried is the Chippy on Potinger St. just below Lyndhurst Terrace. Now this is as close to real “english” fish n chips as you will get this side of Mersey… Big fat chips, real beer batter and a moderate size hunk of cod… don’t forget the mussy peas and yes, pickeled onion and bread and butter for that oh so english creation the Chip Butty… The meal deal descrided above a good value and for $90 you will not need another meal for quite some time.

But our favorite Fish n’ Chips will have to be the $35 fish and chips at the Man Kee greasy spoon on Lamma Island Yung Shue Wan… The chips are MaKain super fries done in whatever oil they use in the deep fryer, nicely crispy, the fish is whatever Mr. Kee happened to catch with his spear gun the day before, breaded and server with a big dolop of Mayo… Sit out back and enjoy the view and smell of Yung Shue Wan harbour…

Anyone knows a good cheep and cheerful fish n’ chip please add a comment here… For now the search continues…
